2. Sweating too much: when does it become a sweating problem?
3. Profuse sweating under armpits and other areas
The armpits, together with the hands and feet, are the areas most affected by excessive sweating. The armpits are slightly different because they are home to the apocrine sweat glands – a type of sweat gland that is first activated during puberty. Sweat from the apocrine sweat glands is different from other sweat and is more likely to cause body odour. That is why an extra-effective antiperspirant for underarm sweat is a good choice for heavy sweating. By controlling the sweating, it also stops the source of the body odour.
Hands and feet are the other areas that are most affected by sweating. Some of the explanation lies in the numbers. The human body has millions of sweat glands, but they are not evenly distributed. The palms and the soles of our feet are some of the areas with the highest concentration of sweat glands. So, if you sweat in these areas, it can quickly become a problem. But again: something can be done. That something is also antiperspirant but in the form of a lotion.
4. Deodorant for extreme sweating – and why it does not stop sweat
If you have unsuccessfully used deodorant for heavy sweating, you are not the first. We know it can be frustrating but there is an explanation. You cannot use a deodorant to stop extreme sweating because it was never meant to.
Deodorant is sold as a spray, roll-on, and stick, but regardless of the form, a deodorant is just a fragrance meant to mask or cover up body odour. Unlike an antiperspirant, it does not control the sweating that eventually leads to body odour. So, using a deodorant for profuse sweating or over sweating is not a solution.

6. How to control excessive sweating effectively
If you want to control heavy sweating effectively, an extra-effective antiperspirant containing Aluminum Chloride is the first line of treatment. This simply means it is the first treatment you should try recommended by your doctor.
To achieve the best effect, you must remember two things. The first is to look for an antiperspirant with the active ingredient Aluminum Chloride, such as Perspirex. However, for an extra-effective antiperspirant to really be effective, you also need to apply it correctly. This means applying it at night to completely dry and undamaged skin, allowing it to work while you sleep.7. Why Aluminum Chloride is recommended for excessive sweating
Aluminum Chloride is recommended for excessive sweating because it is proven to be more efficient than other aluminium salts commonly used in antiperspirants. These might be good enough for moderate sweating, but when it comes to excessive sweating you want the doctor-recommended active ingredient.
It is clinically proven to reduce perspiration and control odour, and it works by forming a temporary gel plug within the sweat ducts. This prevents sweat from reaching the skin’s surface, helping to keep underarms, feet, and hands dry and removing the bacteria’s food source that causes odour. The gel plug is naturally dispelled as your skin naturally sheds old cells.
8. Choosing the best antiperspirant for heavy sweating
If you have read this far, you now know why you should choose an extra-effective antiperspirant for heavy sweating with the active ingredient Aluminum Chloride (all Perspirex products are based on Aluminum Chloride since it is doctor-recommended and extra-effective against excessive sweating).
But not all extra-effective antiperspirants are created equal. Some of them might cause skin irritation. If you have sensitive skin look for an antiperspirant with a skin care system – such as Perspirex Comfort and Perspirex Original.

Frequently asked questions
How is Perspirex different from regular antiperspirants?
Perspirex works so effectively thanks to the active ingredient Aluminium Chloride. The Aluminium Chloride reacts with water and keratin in the sweat duct by temporarily forming a gel-plug preventing the sweat from reaching the surface of the skin. The active skin care system reduces or even minimises the skin irritation commonly known from “highly effective” antiperspirants.
The gel plug is dispelled over the course of a few days with the natural shedding of dead skin cells which is why you only have to reapply Perspirex 2-3 times a week.
Is Aluminum Chloride safe to use?
Perspirex contains alcohol due to the following advantages:
- Cleans and disinfects the skin.
- Reduces odour development.
- Since alcohol is also a disinfectant, there is no need to add preservatives to Perspirex.
- Alcohol quickly evaporates from the skin leaving the skin dry.
- Degreases the skin so that the formulation works uniformly on the skin.
How often do I need to apply Perspirex?
The active ingredient in all Perspirex products is Aluminium Chloride. Aluminium Chloride is used because it is extremely effective at forming a long-lasting gel plug in the sweat ducts. Its effect has been well documented in both the scientific literature and clinical tests.
Aluminium Chloride can irritate the skin; therefore, an active skin care system has been added to the formulation. This skin care technology reduces skin irritation, making the roll-on formulations quite unique.
Can I use Perspirex together with my regular deodorant?
The sweat glands are less active at night. Consequently, the water level in the sweat glands is low and the gel-plug forms more effectively in the sweat duct. This provides you with long-lasting protection against sweat and odour.
Will Perspirex irritate my skin?
The sweat glands are less active at night. Consequently, the water level in the sweat glands is low and the gel-plug forms more effectively in the sweat duct. This provides you with long-lasting protection against sweat and odour.
